Better Off Not Listening to the News
I listened to the news today. Lord knows why. Left column is what I heard. Right column is what also could have been said by the anchors in the same breath, but wasn't.
Actual Headline Brian's Suggested Optional Headline DOW Posts Conservative Gain DOW Back Up 2% in Mid-Day Trading Rally Job Losses Soar, Jobless Rate at 14-Year High US 6.5% Unemployment Resembles Clinton-Era, Exceeds Germany, France, China Ford Posts $3 Billion Loss, Burning Cash Fast Dinosaur Ford Performs According to Analysts' Predictions From Over One Year Ago; Google and Other Innovators Predict Steady Profits Until The End of the World I'm not saying there isn't a recession, but I swear our economy would be much better off if people would just stop listening to media fear mongers.

Unfortunately for you, me, and the rest of the world, in America it is all about the ratings. I, like you, am so disappointed in the media. We cannot get any actionable information.
This is what happens when all major media outlets are owned by large, multi-national corporations who tailor the news to fit their own agendas. There is no good answer for it, though. Media providers have to get money from somewhere, and flawed as this system is, it's still preferable to government sponsored news.
I agree with you completely! I have been annoyed at all of the the negative news scaring people to death. In response, everyone is cautious about spending any money and Wall Street keeps plunging because people aren't spending money. I think if the media would not keep predicting this to keep getting worse as well as lasting until midyear 2009, people would have more hope. I like your headlines so much better!! Thanks!
Just watch the news start to improve now that Obama has been elected. The media will start to paint a rosey picture in spite of events.
@S4447 - About this, keep in mind there is always a "grace period" afforded to every new president. Even W. got the favored treatment from mainstream media his first few months in office -- Time's Man of the Year 2000, 2004.
